European Parliamentary and Devon County Council Elections - 4th June 2009

Elections to the European Parliament are held every 5 years. Elections to Devon County Council are held every 4 years. Elections for the County Council would normally take place in May but the Government agreed to move them to June to take place on the same day as elections for the European Parliament. Both these elections will be held this year on 4 June 2009.

There are 11 electoral divisions in the East Devon area.

European Parliamentary Elections

There are 78 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) representing the UK; after the 2009 elections there will be 72 UK MEPs. The UK is divided into 12 regions, and each region has between three and ten MEPs. East Devon is part of the South West Region. Elections for the South West Region are adminstered by the Regional Returning Officer at Poole Electoral Services.
