Housing and Social Inclusion Service
The Housing and Social Inclusion Service aims to improve the availability and quality of housing for those most in need.
Our vision is to ensure that a good quality affordable home is available to all households in the district and that each home is adequate in size and suitably located for the occupants.
We help people in East Devon by:
- Helping people in housing need find accommodation.
- Looking after the letting, management, sale and repair of East Devon's Council Housing.
- Seeking to create 'viable housing choices' for each person in East Devon.
- Working with partners in the private sector, other Social Housing landlords, and housing advice agencies.
Our main services include
- Production of the Council's housing strategy, setting out our plans for housing over a three year period
- Management of around 4,300 Council properties
- Housing repairs, maintenance, improvement and adaptations
- Provision of housing needs support and advice, including managing the housing register for households seeking accommodation in East Devon
- Enabling new affordable housing and new housing initiatives
- Home Safeguard, our 24 hour emegency alarm service as well as providing a Travelling Warden Support service to tenants.
Other Council services are involved with housing;
- Planning & Countryside Service plans for and controls the numbers, design, and location of houses, and alterations to them.
- Environmental Health & Health Equalities Service review and control the suitability, condition and safety of private housing for the people living in them, including helping private tenants with complaints about their accommodation.
- Devon Care and Repair scheme helps people (especially older people or people with disabilities) to remain independent in their own homes.
- Homesafeguard team who provide vulnerable people with warden and alarm services.
- Housing Benefits Section assist by identifying any benefits which can help people pay their rents etc.
