Byelaws and Orders

Byelaws are local laws established to deal with local issues. Byelaws enable the Council to address any particular needs that are not already regulated or dealt with by existing statutes.

Failure to comply with a byelaw is a criminal offence.

There are many byelaws in existence, some of which have implications for the whole of the district, whereas some are specific to certain towns, villages or nature reserves:

Local orders are also local laws established to deal with local issues over a specific area.  At present the Council has local orders covering the consumption of alcohol in public places, and dispersal orders.
