Voluntary and community groups dealing with children and young people cover a vast field of activities, ages and needs ranging from pre-school playgroups to youth clubs and support for children with special needs. The groups may need funding for capital items, such as purchasing play equipment or for revenue costs, such as salaries for paid workers. The categories listed below are:

Training for work with children/ young people Devon Children’s Trust have 4 day induction courses for staff and volunteers from any sector who are new to working with children and young people. CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE PROJECTS
Exmouth Children and Young People Exmouth Round Table has a total of £14,000 available to organisations who work with young people aged under 25 in Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton and surrounding areas. Local charity Lord Clinton's Charitable Trust has grants available from £50- £1,000 to registered charities to help them support young people and disabled people within North and East Devon, e.g. local playgroups. Money for young people The Prince’s Trust has funding available to young people aged between 14 and 25 for a wide variety of things such as improving youth facilities or setting up sex education workshops in schools. Tesco Charity The Tesco Charity Trust has grants of between £1,000 and £4,000 available. These grants are for practical benefits such as equipment and resources for projects that directly benefit children, the elderly and adults and children with disabilities living in communities near Tesco stores in the UK. Projects previously funded include playground equipment, sensory gardens, holiday play schemes, luncheon clubs and day trips. Money for Young People This is an exciting opportunity annually for the young people of East Devon to get their own projects up and running in the area. The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) and Youth Capital Fund (YCF) are open to Young People in Devon aged 13 to 19 to apply for something they would like to do in their area, including paying for adults to help them. There is usually a total of about £600,000 to give to the young people of Devon. Applications for both must be submitted by a young person (aged 13-19) living in Devon. All sorts of causes The Garfield Weston Foundation has grants available of between £3,000 and £1million. They support a wide variety of good causes including: education, the arts, welfare, youth, community, environment, mental health, health, religion (especially church restoration) and others. Youth Sector Funding Grants of up to £2.5m are available to invest in building the capacity and sustainability of voluntary and community sector organisations that have developed effective approaches to working with young people. Young People Projects The Lefevre Trust has funding of up to £10,000 available to support innovative projects between young people in France and the UK. Young People Young Roots provides grants of between £3,000 and £25,000 to involve 13- 25 year olds in finding out about their heritage, developing skills, building confidence and promoting community involvement. This could involve projects such as getting young people volunteering as wildlife recorders or involved in a community exhibition. Connecting Youth Across Europe Youth in Action have funding available to help young people to discover Europe. Youth projects The Wessex Youth Trust has grants available (average of £2,500 to £5,000) for projects that help support and advance young people. Supporting young people The Joanies Trust has grants of about £1,000 available to registered charities who are working with young people aged 11 to 25. The projects funded must offer intensive support to young people, promote preventative work or lead to the individual's development. Childrens Holidays The Henry Smith Charity has one off grants available to organisations, schools, youth groups etc of up to £3,000. Broad range of funding The Percy Bilton Charity has funding for a wide variety of worthwhile causes. They aim to support disadvantaged young people under the age of 25, people with any kind of disability and older people (aged over 60). Only registered charities can apply. Fun and Happiness KidsOut has grant aid available to help disadvantaged children up to the age of 18 have fun. They provide a helpine for support on many issues, play opportunities and also small grants to individuals, families, schools and groups for the purchase of special play equipment, holidays, toys and outings. Issues important to young people ‘Here to Help’ offers funding to help young people in Britain develop projects and speak out on issues that matter to them. The scheme is run by British Gas and Save the Children and helps projects that are primarily young person led and that improve the life chances of children and young people in vulnerable and disadvantaged groups. The Children’s Fund The Children's Fund is part of the government's commitment to tackle disadvantage among children and young people. The Fund closed for applications in December 2008 but may open up again soon. The programme aims to identify at an early stage children and young people at risk of social exclusion, and make sure they receive the help and support they need to achieve their potential. Better well-being of children The Clara E Burgess Charity has grants available to support facilities and assistance to enhance the well-being of children particularly those under the age of 10 who have lost one or both parents. Children and young people in Devon The Bloss Family Foundation has funding available to groups in Devon, Dorset, Somerset and Surrey. Your project must help children and young people aged 18 or under from deprived backgrounds and/ or are mentally and/ or physically disabled to enjoy a better quality of life. Money for charities The Nationwide Foundation has grants available of up to £5,000 for registered charities to support them in working towards a just and caring society. The funding could be to work with those affected by domestic violence, families of people who are in prison or young people who are or have been involved in the criminal justice system. Education The Ernest Cook Trust has one-off grants of up to £10,000 available (average £1,500) for educational grants focusing on children and young people for the environment, rural conservation, the countryside, arts and crafts, literacy, numeracy and research. Money to help learning Learning Launchpad has funding available to support groundbreaking ideas that will raise the aspirations and increase the potential of young people aged 14- 25. Education The Equitable Charitable Trust has grants of between £2,500 and £30,000 available to support the educational needs of those under the age of 25 who are from disadvantaged backgrounds or are disabled. Grants can be for 1- 3 years for project costs, capital expenditure, equipment and/ or salary costs. LA maintained schools and individuals cannot apply. Parent Carers for Disabled Children ‘Together for Disabled Children’ has grants of up to £10,000 available under the Parent Carer Participation Scheme. Funding is available for parent groups, voluntary organisations or in areas where there are no parent groups for statutory services. Project funding The Hedley Foundation has funding available for specific projects to assist and encourage development and change. Last year the average grant given was £3,000. The main aim of the project should be to support young people. They will also fund projects involving disabled people, the terminally ill and carers. Only registered charities can apply.
