Laura is our first Youth Press Officer!

Thursday 11 March
Young people all over the country tend to get a pretty bad press. So East Devon District Council has decided to try and combat those negative images of young people in its area, by getting involved and promoting some of the positive and interesting things they do...
Our first Youth Press Officer is Laura Gould, who is aged 16, lives in Colyton and attends Axe Valley Community College, where she is currently studying for her A-levels in Photography, English, Law and Textiles. She is a keen writer, with an interest in Journalism and ambitions of a career in Media and PR; this meant she was an ideal candidate for the new role launched by EDDC in January.
Laura said: "It is a delight to be one of the new Youth Press Officers and I certainly will make the most of the brilliant opportunities that come with it”.
She added: "I also want to elevate the status of young people within the community so people like me feel their views can be heard and are of importance”.
Laura will be scouting out young people’s events and interests, as well as seeking their views on issues, before writing articles on them. Her press releases will then be sent out to the media in the East Devon area via the EDDC Press Office. The future for Laura is very positive, so expect to see forthcoming articles by her – for young people and about young people, by young people! ”.
