Contaminated Land Strategy

We have produced a strategy which outlines our approach to inspecting East Devon for contaminated land.

Local authorities have a statutory duty to inspect their district to identify contaminated land, as defined under Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

If a piece of land has been formally determined to be contaminated land then those parties involved will be notified. Remedial measures will be agreed to ensure that the land is made suitable for its current use.

Our strategy outlines the procedures that will be used to gather and evaluate the information required to determine whether land is contaminated. Sites will be dealt with according to any potential risks posed by the site.

We may liaise with and consult other interested organisations, such as the Environment Agency, English Heritage, Devon County Council.
