Energy efficiency

Energy efficiency is important for both voluntary and community sector activities and on a domestic level. We have therefore included details on grants for homes in the 'Funding and Grants for Individuals' section. Renewable Energy
Devon Association for Renewable Energy (DARE) are very knowledgable about renewable energy options for householders and organisations, as well as having information on grants available. For more information: www.devondare.org or phone 01837 89200

Green Grants
The Green Grants Machine website has a wealth of information on all the latest funding schemes to help companies and community groups become more environmentally friendly such as introducing energy efficiency measures. You can fill in a simple form about your project and it will search funding providers for you. For more information: www.greengrantsmachine.co.uk

Energy
Renewable Energy 4 Devon (RE4D) has funding available of up to £30,000 (or 30% to 50% of the total project cost) for renewable energy measures. They will fund biomass boilers, photovoltaic panels, solar hot water systems, heat pumps, wind turbines and hydro schemes. Community groups and small to medium sized enterprises can apply. Fuel Poverty
The EAGA Partnership Charitable Trust has funding available to support organisations that work on the relief of fuel poverty and promotion of energy efficiency and vulnerable consumers. The next application deadline is 1 May 2009. For more information: www.eaga.com/charitable/charitable_trust

Community Action for Energy (CAfE)
Community Action for Energy (CAfE) can help you improve the quality of life in your community by promoting sustainable energy, improving the warmth and comfort of people's homes, saving money and helping the environment. A community-based energy project can provide new opportunities, whether you want to help people save money on their fuel bills or develop a renewable energy project, CAfE is here to help. Sustainable Energy
E.ON Sustainable Energy Fund has grants available of up to £20,000 for local community groups and not for profit organisations who wish to install renewable energy sources or reduce the amount of energy used. Joint proposals e.g. with the local authority, may be considered. Your organisation must benefit young people, elderly people and/or people in fuel poverty. Grants for green heating systems
Ecovision are encouraging charities, including village halls, to make use of grants that allow them to install low-carbon heating systems free of charge. Ground sourced heat pumps can cut energy costs by up to 60%. 50% of the cost of installing one can be recovered from the Department for Businesses, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform and 50% can be applied for from the Big Lottery Fund’s community sustainable energy fund. Green heating systems
The Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs offers funding of up to £100,000 to support the installation of biomass fuelled heating and combined heat and power projects. Green energy
The Low Carbon Buildings Programme has grants available for 50% of the costs of installing small scale energy generating equipment such as wind turbines or solar panels. Grants are available to public sector buildings (including schools, hospitals, housing assocations and local authorities) and charitable bodies. The deadline for applications is 30 June 2009. Renewable Energy
The GreenPlan Fund aims to support renewable energy projects in the community. Projects must result in the creation or expansion of renewable energy by local community groups and not for profit organisations. For more information: 0870 4191544

Green Energy
The Green Energy Trust has grants of about £10,000 available for up to half the cost of renewable technology. Only local community groups, not for profit organisations and charities based in the UK can apply. There are three submission deadlines each year. Sustainable energy
E.ON Source Fund have grants of up to £20,000 available for local community groups and not for profit organisations for sustainable energy projects. This could include buying and installing new renewable energy sources, giving a building an energy efficiency make-over, intelligent use of waste energy etc. The deadline for applications is 15 May 2009. Bio-energy grants
The Bio-energy Capital Grants Scheme has a total of £12m of funding available to fund biomass fuelled heat and biomass combined heat and power projects. Businesses, organisations and charities in the commercial, industrial and community sectors can apply. The deadline for applications is 30 April 2009.
