Income and Capital
What is "means testing" for benefits?
It means that we look in detail at how much money you earn or have coming in (income) and how much money you have saved or invested (capital) before we work out how much benefit you can claim.
You cannot get either housing benefit or council tax benefit if you, your partner, or both of you have cash, savings and investments of over £16,000 (unless you get the guarantee part of Pension Credit).
