Council Tax
East Devon District Council is responsible for the collection of Council Tax for 60,000 properties. The tax we collect funds not only the services we provide but also the services provided by Devon County Council, Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Authority, Devon & Cornwall Police Authority as well as the town and parish councils.
The Council Tax we collect is not enough to pay for all the services we need to provide so every year the Government gives local authorities additional money, known as the Revenue Support Grant, to make up the difference. The amount of the grant is based on the needs, resources and population of the local area.
If you want to find out more about our budget and spending plans, you can download a copy of the 2008/09 Council Tax information booklet entitled, '
Working together in East Devon' (1168KB - PDF Help). This booklet contains 40 pages of facts and figures, diagrams and pictures. It covers many aspects of the Council Tax, including:
- who gets your money
- how your Council Tax is spent
- what each parish and town will pay
- how people on low incomes can pay less
Contributions from: Devon County Council, Devon & Cornwall Police Authority, Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Authority and East Devon District Council are included in the booklet.
