Council Tax
East Devon District Council collects council ax and business rates from over 68,000 properties. The money we collect pays for all the services provided by:
- East Devon District Council
- Devon County Council
- Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Authority
- Devon & Cornwall Police Authority
- Town and parish councils.
Every year the Government gives local authorities additional money, known as the Revenue Support Grant, to make up the difference between the amount we collect in council tax and business rates and the amount we need in order to pay for all our services. The amount of the grant is based on the needs, resources and population of the local area.
If you want to find out more about our budget and spending plans, as well as those for Devon County Council, Devon & Cornwall Police Authority and Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Authority, you can download our performance and information booklet for 2009/10 entitled, '
Working together in East Devon' (867KB - PDF Help). It contains 40 pages of facts and figures, diagrams and pictures and shows who gets your money, how it is spent, how efficient we are and how people on low incomes can pay less.
