Disregarded People Discount
A full council tax charge is based on two or more adults (over 18 years of age) living in a household - if there's fewer than two, the household can get a discount.
For council tax purposes, certain types of people are not 'counted' towards the number of adults in a household (they are disregarded) and the bill is worked out as if they weren't living there. This means that the council tax bill could be reduced by a discount of 25% or, in certain circumstances, by 50%.

- People in detention
- People who are severely mentally impaired
- 18 year olds in respect of whom child benefit is paid
- School or college leavers.
- Full time students including 18 and 19 year olds still at school
- Student nurses
- Apprentices and trainees
- Foreign language assistants
- People resident in nursing or care homes
- Carers
