New Devon Home Choice scheme information

Are you in urgent housing need?
If you are not, then think very carefully before deciding to register for housing with Devon Home Choice.
Most housing in East Devon goes to applicants in the ‘gold’ band or in the Devon Home Choice scheme ‘Band B’. Very little housing ever gets offered to applicants in the lower bands. The only housing offered to applicants outside the ‘gold’ band is usually ‘supported’ housing for the elderly or disabled people.
Do not join the register ‘just in case’ – your chances of being offered a property are very slim.
The council has about 250 empty properties available for let each year. Around half of these are sheltered and only available for people over 60 years old or disabled. Around 90 properties are for family housing and 35 properties are designated for single person accommodation. The average waiting time for a property is between two to three years.
If you require housing you need to apply online on the Devon Home Choice website.
