- details about what we insure and what we do not insure
- details about low cost home contents insurance
- how to make a claim against the Council for any damage caused to your property
We insure our council dwellings and in the event of fire, lightning, storm or flood we would claim on our insurance for the cost of repairing or rebuilding the property.
We do not insure any contents that belong to you, the tenant, or for any improvements that may have been carried out by you. We strongly urge that you have your own contents insurance.
Contents insurance is available from a number of insurance companies. Alternatively, East Devon is part of the Westcountry Consortium Home Contents Insurance Scheme. This scheme has arranged an affordable home contents insurance policy through which tenants can protect their belongings. The scheme is open to all tenants and leaseholders of East Devon District Council.
Premiums are paid direct to the insurer, the Council is not involved in the administration in any way and the insurers handle claims direct. The cover, which has been specially provided, is designed to help tenants insure most of their belongings on a ‘new for old’ basis. The policy includes fire, theft and water damage. Premiums can be paid fortnightly, monthly by direct debit or annually by cheque, debit or credit card. For more information see their
booklet (627KB - 06 July 2011 - PDF Help) and
