Street Cafes

If you want to provide a continental style feel to your food business by extending the seating area out on to the pavement there are several things you should consider.

You will need permission from the County Council, who are responsible for the pavements adjacent to roads. You can get all the necessary information from their website by following this link.

You also need to think if you will need planning permission, especially if you are going to need to construct any kind of structure, so it is worth discussing your proposal with a Planning Officer.

The Council also have byelaws on the number of WCs you have to provide for people eating at your premises, and if you increase the number of covers you provide you must ensure you have enough WCs to cater for the increase in customer numbers. You need roughly one WC for every 25 people you can seat in your business. Please contact us to get more details on this important point.
