1. What can I put in my green recycling box?
You can put in the following:

  • Newspapers, magazines, Yellow Pages, catalogues, directories, office paper, junk mail and envelopes - please remove any plastic windows.
  • Glass bottles and jars – no lids or other types of glass please. Please ensure bottles and jars are rinsed and clean.
  • Cans – please ensure that there are no protruding sharp edges and that they are rinsed free of food. There is no need to crush the cans.
  • Aerosols
  • Textiles – clean and dry please.
  • Aluminium Foil- clean and dry please.
  • Used household batteries - in bags supplied - please contact us should you require any more bags.

Boxes are collected from the edge of your property, i.e. they should be left at a position adjacent to the footway/highway. Please ensure that the box is easily visible to the collectors as they drive by. Collections will start at 7.30 am.

2. What if I have too much material for my green box?
The boxes come with a lid to try to reduce potential litter problems. However, if you find that you are putting out lots of recycling each fortnight, the box can be stacked higher than the sides. The best way to stack excess material in the box is to put the paper on top last, put the lid on top and weight it down with a brick. Additional material can be put out in small plastic bags if necessary. Black refuse sacks will not be collected

3. I struggle to get my green box out for collection - can I get help so that I can keep recycling?
There will be some residents who may wish to take part but will have difficulty in placing their box at the edge of their property or may be unsure as to where to leave the box. Residents in blocks of flats may have difficulties in placing boxes at the front edge of the property. Please contact the Customer Service Centre on 01395 517528 in case of these or any other problems.
