Special Collections

East Devon District Council operate a Special Collection service for unwanted bulky household items such as fridges or freezers.  The 2008/2009 charge for the service  is  £45. (This is a charge for the service NOT per item)

Conditions are:

  • Fixtures and fittings are not accepted.
  • Items must be made easily accessible and available outside the property
  • No appointments - items will be collected within 7 days from the day payment is received
  • No House clearances

Examples of acceptable items:

  • Furniture eg sofas, beds etc.
  • Carpets
  • Electrical goods
  • Cookers - Not Aga or Rayburn
  • Fridges
  • Freezers
  • Storage Heaters - No bricks
  • Upright Piano
  • Garden tools

Examples of unacceptable items:

  • Asbestos
  • Kitchen units
  • Fire Surrounds
  • Oil Tanks
  • Doors (inc Garage Doors)
  • Sinks
  • Baths
  • Boilers
  • Sheds
  • Storage heaters with bricks
  • Aga and Rayburn Cookers
  • Gas Canisters (full or empty)
  • Coal Bunkers
  • Rubble
  • Car Parts, Batteries and tyres.

Please note that most of the above items acceptable and non-acceptable can be taken to your nearest Civic Amenity Centre where you can dispose these free of charge. For advice or more info please call Devon County Council 0845 155 1010.
