Marriages

Request an Appointment at a Registration Office

Civil marriage arrangements must be made in person at a Registration Office. Couples must give Notice of Marriage declaring that they are free to marry.

Devon (excluding Plymouth and Torbay) is now one District. This means that couples living in the Devon County Council area wishing to give notice of marriage may make an appointment to do so at any of Devon's 8 Registration Offices, rather than being restricted to the Office for the area in which they live.

The Registration Service is also responsible for registering marriages at some Churches and Chapels and approving properties to be used for civil ceremonies. Couples choosing a civil marriage ceremony may be married within a Registration Office, its Additional Ceremony Room, where available, or at any approved venue in England and Wales. In the Devon County Council area there are over 130 approved venues.
