Exmouth Beach

This spacious resort boasts fine gardens and parks, some dating from the town's Victorian heyday. A sea wall and Queens Drive back Exmouth's long sandy beach, a wide promenade lined with shops, restaurants and pubs.

Beach Type:

Gentle shelving beach with sand, shingle towards the waters edge after storms. Rarely has surf unless wind generated storm surf, best towards the eastern end of the seafront. Rock pools are accessible during low tide

Pay parking for over 1,000 vehicles.

Lifeguard:

A lifeguard is based between the red and yellow flags daily from 10:30 to 17:30 hours during the Whitsun bank holiday until the first week in September.

Emergency Facilities:

There is a 1st Aid post near the lifeboat station.

Swimmers should be aware of the strong tidal currents. Lifeguard cover is on part of the beach, indicated with signs. Red flags mark unsafe bathing areas. Do not be tempted to swim to the sand bar (pole sands), the strong current between the beach and sand bar is very dangerous as can be the craft using the channel to come in and out of the River Exe.

Cleaning:

Cleaned both mechanically and manually on a daily basis in the summer, monthly in the winter. Dog bins are provided and dogs are welcome all year on parts of the beach and on the main beach from October to the end of April.

Activities:

Swimming, fishing, jet skiing, surfboard/canoe hire, surfing, windsurfing sailing and boat trips. Zoning in place for jet skis.

Facilities:

Toilets available, including facilities for disabled people. Cafes, restaurants, kiosks and pubs are plentiful on the front and in the town.

A slipway at the western end of the esplanade by the dock provides access for boats.
