1: Are you responsible for planting flowers:

Yes, The Parks Department (Street Scene Services) East Devon District Council are responsible, for the design and planting of the Parks & Gardens as well as their general upkeep.

2: Are you responsible for the trees?

The Parks Department (Street Scene Services) are responsible for planting and remedial work of the trees in the parks, but otherwise trees are looked after by our Countryside Department – why not check out the Countryside web pages on the EDDC site for more information.

3: I’ve just been walking in the Park and the grass/pavement is covered with dog fouling can you clean it up?

Yes: Telephone 01395 517528  and the Customer Service Centre will arrange for a prompt clean up.

4: The litter bins in the park are overflowing can you empty please?

Yes: Telephone 01395 517528 and the Customer Service Centre will arrange for them to be emptied as soon as possible.

5: How often are the dog waste bins emptied in the Parks?

Normally the dog waste bins are emptied three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. If however, you find them full telephone 01395 517528 and speak to the Customer Service Centre who will arrange to have them emptied.

6: Where do the Council get their plants from?

The Council buy their plants from a contracted nursery, and the majority of plants used in our Parks and Gardens can be obtained from any of the quality nurseries within East Devon. The floral design beds (carpet bedding) plants are tendered for annually.

7: How can I apply for a floral display (carpet bedding) in one of East Devon District Council’s parks?

Write a letter with your request to The Parks Development Officer, Mark Pollard at Street Scene Services, East Devon District Council, The Knowle, Sidmouth, EX10 8HL or email: streetscene@eastdevon.gov.uk. If there is space available on the day/year of your request then your application will be given consideration.

8: How often is the grass cut?

Grass is normally cut on a three week cycle in normal open space areas, during the growing season, more often in high ornamental areas like public gardens. This cycle may be affected by bad weather conditions.

9: Do the refuse collectors collect grass cuttings?

Yes, but only if you buy the special orange plastic bags (£6.93 for 5 bags) sold and used especially to bag up garden refuse: Telephone our Customer Services Centre on 01395 517528 who will request the bags from the Council’s contractor for you.
