Everyone aged 60 and over, or who is eligible disabled, is entitled to free local bus travel. Local authorities also offer concessions for certain groups of people using buses, including young people.

Free Travel

  • 45,000 eldery or disabled people are entitled to a bus pass in East Devon
    • Only 25,000 currently hold one
  • Cost is £1.15M per year, most of which goes to the bus operators
  • 1M trips per year are taken using this scheme
  • The scheme operates 9am to 12 midnight Monday to Friday.and all day weekends and Bank Holidays

Through the scheme, EDDC is obliged to cover travel to its geographical boundaries, but the Council also allows trips to Exeter, Crediton, Tiverton, Cullompton, Taunton, Bridport and Lyme Regis.


In 2008 a national scheme is being introduced, which will extend local bus travel to anywhere in England. For more information on this please go to the Directgov website or the Department for Transport website.
