Public Questions to Committees
Under our Constitution, any member of the public can now ask a question at the following:
Council
Executive Board
Corporate Overview Committee
Scrutiny Committee
Housing Review Board
Audit and Corporate Governance Committee
A 15 minute period of public question time will be held at the start of each meeting of full Council, Executive Board, and the committees listed above. Giving notice of the question you want to ask is not necessary under the Council's constitution; however, it would be helpful in providing an answer to your question if you could tell us what that question is before the meeting.
You can do this by writing to:
Democratic Services Manager
East Devon District Council
Council Offices
Sidmouth
Devon
EX10 8HL
or e-mailing your question to Democratic Services. Please confirm the name and date of the meeting at which you wish to speak.
In addition, at the following meetings, you can ask a question on a specific item on the agenda, when that item has been introduced:
Executive Board
Development Control Committee
Corporate Overview Committee
Scrutiny Committee
Audit and Governance Committee
The Chairman will, after each item has been introduced, ask if there are any members of the public who wish to ask a question.
You are limited to three minutes to make your statement, or ask a question, so please be as clear and succinct as possible to put your point across in that time. The Chairman has the right and discretion to avoid any disruption, repetition and make best use of the meeting time.
If no Councillor or Council officer can answer your question at the meeting, please enter your question in the Question Book available at the meeting, along with your contact details, so that a response to your question can be sent to you. Your contact details will not be used for any other purpose and will be removed from the Question Book after the meeting.
At present the Development Control Committee does not have a public question period. It is possible to speak at Planning Inspections Committee. You can request information on how you may speak at a Planning Inspections Committee meeting here
You can find out when the meetings are held by looking at our Committee Meetings Timetable page
Committee minutes and agendas are also published on this website.
