Standards Committee

What does this committee do?

All elected Councillors (and any co-opted Members) are subject to the Code of Conduct for Councillors. The Standards Committee ensures that Councillors adhere to the Code and investigates any complaints brought against any Councillor. This includes Town and Parish Councillors as well as District Councillors.

For details on  the procedure which will be followed if a case is referred for  local investigation of allegations of misconduct by Councillors, PDF file please click here (158KB - PDF Help). The procedure may be varied by the Monitoring Officer or Head of Legal, Licensing and Democratic Services but the Councillor against whom the allegation has been made will be notified in writing of the proposed variation to the procedure and the reasons for that variation.  This procedure will apply to allegations of breach of the authority’s Code of Conduct by elected and co-opted members of the authority and by the directly elected mayor of the authority.

Full details of the responsibilities of the Standards Committee are set out on pages 68 and 69 of East Devon District Council's Constitution
