East Devon District Council owns and manages just under 4300 Council homes, 700
garages,
176 leaseholder properties and the surrounding estates. We aim to improve the availability and quality
of housing for those most in need.

1,612 three bedroomed 70 four
bedroomed. 2 five bedroomed and 1 six bedroomed properties)
- Registered Social Landlord stock 1250 stock
- Current housing demand within East Devon 4,499 (2,660 one bedroomed, 1,115 two bedroomed,
607 three bedroomed, 90 four bedroomed, and 27 five bedroomed properties)
- The cost of homelessness to the Council is around £700,000 each year
- There are currently around 170 homeless households in temporary accommodation
- The average stay in Council temporary accommodation is over 3 years
- 120 households were accepted as homeless in 2006/2007
- An average of 300 Council and 80 Housing Association properties become empty each year
- Around 160 of the empty properties each year are 'family' housing
- Around 60 new social rented homes are built by Housing Associations each year
