EDDC's Planning Service is one of the busiest in the UK. In 2006 it was responsible for:
- Processing 3,600 planning applications
- Defending over 200 planning appeals
- Processing 2,900 new homes at Cranbrook
- Carrying out over 6,000 site inspections
- Providing a 24/7 Building Control emergency service response

Planning online
- The planning portal was introduced in East Devon in December 2005
- We have scanned all plans and decision notices on the online system from December 2005 and historical applications from 1990 to 1995
- We currently have 23,000 application details going back to 1999
- We receive approximately 35 online applications per month, predominantly from planning agents
