Streetscene is responsible for the provision and emptying of the majority of litter bins in public places throughout East Devon.
Emptying
The emptying schedule is determined by the location of the bin and the expected usage. In rural areas, the litter bins are generally emptied once a week whereas in towns, seafronts or parks, this can increase to as much as four times a day, seven days a week during peak season. We also schedule additional collections if we are aware of special events taking place, such as a fair visiting.
What Can Be Placed in a Litter Bin?
Litter bins can be used for general rubbish that you create through the day while you are away from home. They must not be used for domestic refuse. The use of litter bins for the disposal of waste by traders or businesses is also strictly prohibited. Any waste that looks like it may be domestic or trade refuse will be checked and East Devon District Council reserves the right to take further action against any individual or company that uses the litter bins incorrectly.
Reporting a Full Bin or Vandalism
If you notice a bin is over full and hasn't been emptied, please contact us to let us know.
Similarly, please advise us of any vandalism or damage that you see on any of our litter bins, especially if it has left sharp edges or other hazards to the public.
When contacting the us please take a moment to think about what you are going to say before calling. Your call is important to us but with the high volume of calls and, or, possible lack of information could result in either delayed reaction time or possibly the named problem/s not being found.
The use of the following 5 W's can help everyone:
- Who - you are and if possible a contact telephone number

- Where - the problem is (road names and reference or prominent points reduce the time spent searching for problems)

EDDC works in partnership with the local Police, should you have information that is valuable please call 08452 777444
