2. The Village Boundaries Document
We are currently working with the Town/Parish Councils to consider where new housing should be allocated in their rural areas. Small towns and larger villages have been given a number of houses each through the Local Plan and we are now looking at sites to accommodate these. We have written to all Parishes to inform them of the process and have asked those Parishes containing settlements with Built-up Area Boundaries to consider which sites may be suitable for development. Any sites we receive will be assessed by our SHLAA panel of experts and those which are found to be developable will be reported to the Town/Parish Council who can then decide which ones should be developed. We expect local Councils to consult their residents so that the decision making process is open and inclusive. Once sites have been identified they will be subject to a further round of consultation as part of the Local Plan process.
The letters that we sent were as follows:
1. Letter to Ottery St Mary and Sidmouth Town Councils (as they contain villages with Built-up Area Boundaries) (98KB - 23 May 2012 - PDF Help)
2. Letter to Parish Councils containg villages with Built-up Area Boundaries (99KB - 23 May 2012 - PDF Help)
3. Letter to rural Parish Councils whose settlements are covered by the countryside policy of the Local Plan (77KB - 23 May 2012 - PDF Help)
Letters were copied to all Ward Members for information. The letters refer to maps for some settlements, these show sites submitted to us by landowners as part of our previous consultation.
A document containing all the maps can be downloaded here. (50565KB - 23 May 2012 - PDF Help) We are asking for further sites to be submitted by landowners before June 29th 2012.
The previous Consultation period on the plan ended on the 31st January 2012 and representor comments can be viewed on our Draft East Devon Local Plan Page.
The Local Plan Panel (previously known as LDF Panel) were instrumental in informing the new plan and notes of their meetings can be viewed via this link.
Evidence
The new Local Plan (2006 to 2026) draft consultation document is supported by an extensive evidence base which is available on our Research and Evidence page.
Future Stages
We plan to take the Local Plan (as amended) to Full Council on 25 July 2012 with Pre Submission Representations being made in the Summer/Autumn 2012. This will enable submission to the Secretary of State in late 2012 with Examination in 2013. We should receive the Inspectors Report in Summer 2013 and will adopt the Local Plan in Autumn 2013.
