Exeter and East Devon Growth Point Low and Zero Carbon Study 2008

Within the Exeter and East Devon New Growth Point a number of locations for new residential and employment developments have been identified in order to satisfy ambitious regional targets for new homes and employment. The significant scale of these developments has prompted serious consideration of how to measure and moderate their energy demands and their emissions of greenhouse gases.

This document, commissioned by the Exeter and East Devon New Growth Point Team on behalf of Exeter City Council, East Devon District Council and Devon County Council, was produced by Element Energy. It addresses energy demand issues by estimating the CO2 emissions from buildings in a "business as usual” approach to development, and identifying the impact of policies and technologies which would reduce emissions. Using this evidence base, the report develops a coherent and costed strategy to limit the energy demand and mitigate the environmental impact of these developments.
