On 15th March 2011 the Development Management Committee considered the
report setting out the feedback on the recent Preferred Approach consultation (3649KB - 04 March 2011 - PDF Help) and agreed to note the responses.
The report explains that the Preferred Approach document was consulted on in a series of different ways, including via social media and leaflets posted to every household, and through various events held during Autumn 2010. These consultation techniques were designed to be as inclusive as possible. The timetable detailing the methods used, the outcomes resulting and lessons learnt for future consultation have been recorded and are available to download through the following links:

All comments on the Core Strategy Preferred Approach have been recorded, in Chapter order,
in the report which can be accessed here (8033KB - 01 March 2011 - PDF Help). The report excludes any PDF attachments which accompanied representations, these may be viewed by appointment at the District Council offices. Please note that the report is very large and may take a considerable time to download. The comments have also been
recorded in order by postcode (9325KB - 08 March 2011 - PDF Help) of the representor so that it is possible to identify issues of particular concern based on the areas in which representors live.
The views of a large number of students from all state secondary schools in the District were also gathered in a number of discussion events held during October and November 2010. Informing the LDF Preferred Approach Consultation Event - Spring 2010
From Dec 08 to Feb 09 we consulted upon a paper setting out the Issues and Options for development in the District. This took the form of public exhibitions, presentations to Town/Parish Councils and an online form. The responses to this work, along with extensive, targeted consultation (detailed below) throughout Spring 2010, have informed the production of the Preferred Approach Document.
The consultation methods employed during Spring 2010 included:
•Evening discussion groups with Parish Councillors
•Questionnaires for Parish Council’s to complete with their communities
•Afternoon workshops with Town Councils, local interest groups, local organisations and landscape/highway/environment specialists.
•An evening Workshop with the East Devon Business Forum
•Working with young people attending youth clubs in each town photographing the local features they liked, disliked and would like to see more of, discussing local issues and completing a questionnaire to win a £25 voucher
•Attendance at the Equalities Forum to discuss issues affecting minority groups
