Methods of payment

Making payments - by direct debit Direct Debit - This is by far the easiest and most cost effective way to pay. You can choose to pay on either the 1st or the 17th of the month. Just ring us on 01395 517445 and we will take the details over the phone. Alternatively, you can PDF file fill out a Direct Debit mandate (72KB - 18 August 2009 - PDF Help) and send it to us.

Making payments - online Online - You can pay online through your own bank if you have an online banking facility.  You will need the Council's bank details, as follows, when making a payment:

          Reference No.     your own bill number

www.billpayment.co.uk/    Girobank Billpay allows you to pay using your debit card (Delta, Switch etc.) at any time of day, not just when our offices are open. You need to have your rate reference number ready (it's at the top of your business rates bill). We usually receive the payment 4 working days later.

Making payments - by telephone Telephone - call us on 01395 517446 to make a debit card payment. Please be ready to tell us your rates reference number (it's at the top of your business rates bill) and the amount you want to pay.

Making payments - at the post office Post Office - use the barcode at the bottom of your bill to make payment at your Post Office. Make sure you get a receipt.

Making payments - by post Post - send your cheque or postal order to the address shown on the front of your bill. Make your cheque payable to East Devon District Council and write your business rates reference number (it's at the top of your business rates bill) on the back.

Making payments - in person In Person - you can pay at the Council Offices, Knowle, Sidmouth, on Mondays to Fridays between 8.30 am and 5.00 pm. If you are paying by cash, make sure you get a receipt.

Other ways to pay

BACS
You can arrange to pay your business rates by BACS via your own bank. If you want to know about paying by BACS, please call our Income & Payments office on 01395 517496.

Bank Standing Order (BSO)
Unlike a direct debit which carries on from year to year, you have to set up a BSO each year when you get your annual bill. The details you will need to give your bank are:
