Register to vote if you're 16 or 17 years old

You can vote in elections in this country when you turn 18 years old.

But you should get your name on the register if you are 16 or 17 years old because the register lasts for a year and there could be an election after you turn 18.

Getting on the register is easy. If you live with parents or guardians, make sure whoever fills out the form that comes through the post, every September, adds your name and date of birth to the form. If you are not sure you are registered, ring (01395) 517402.

If you're living independently, you can download and fill out an PDF file electoral registration form (33KB Portable Document Format - 11 March 2014 - PDF Help) here.

If you want to talk to someone for further advice, please contact the electoral services team on (01395) 517402 or send us an enquiry through this website.

Don't lose your right to vote!
