Community sports clubs contribute a great deal to the health and wellbeing of the local community. However finding funding may be difficult as there are a limited number of funders for sports. Therefore in addition to the relevant websites, we have included details on tax breaks for Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs)

Sport England  Sport England is the national development agency for sport and a good starting point in the search for funding. Their main website is: www.sportengland.org

Sport England's Small Grants Programme  They will fund work that supports recognised sports with a clear sporting outcome to grow and sustain themselves. Their list of recognised sports currently includes 36 sports, but is increasing all the time, so it is worth phoning them to ask if they can fund your sport. Sports clubs, voluntary and community organisations, local authorities and education establishments can apply. You can apply for between £300 and £10,000. Funding for Devon  Devon Community Foundation through Comic Relief has grants of up between £1,000 and £10,000 available. Grants could support a range of activities in particular sport based, and should make a lasting change to the local community in particular those who are disadvantaged or excluded. Recreation and leisure support  The Gilbert and Eileen Edgar Foundation have grants of about £500 available for recreation and leisure support for smaller registered charities where this limited grant would be of real value. Many successful support schemes are funded for a number of years. For more information: 01189 524700

Disabled sports  The Boost Charitable Trust has funding available to champion the disabled and disadvantaged and to inspire them to overcome their challenges through the power of sport. Grants can be Small Awards of less than £500 or Large Awards of over £500. For more information: www.boostct.org or phone 020 7767 5559

Caudwell Children  The Caudwell Children Charity and Barclays Wealth have launched a programme to fund adapted sports equipment for gifted and talented disabled children to participate in competitive sport. Sporting Funding:  The Peter Harrison Foundation has grants available to registered charities. The charities must wish to support sporting activities or projects which provide opportunities for people who are disabled or otherwise disadvantaged. Sport for Change: Comic Relief has grants of up to £100,000 available in their new fund ‘Sport for Change’. The grants are for community groups and organisations using sport as part of a broader programme of work to bring about change at an individual and/ or community level. Sports clubs: Cash 4 Clubs has funding available to sports clubs that are registered with their sport’s National Governing Body or local authority. Grants are up to £1,000 and can be used to improve facilities, purchase new equipment, gain coaching qualifications etc. For more information: www.cash-4-clubs.com

FUNDING FOR SPECIFIC SPORTS

Mountaineering and climbing: The Andy Fanshawe Memorial Trust funds projects that give disadvantaged young people the opportunity to experience the great outdoors. Project costs are funded including hiking trips, Outward Bound courses, climbing walls etc. For more information visit: www.andyfanshawe.org

Fundraising for dance?  The Foundation for Community and Youth Dance have produced a Fundraising Toolkit to help people successfully apply for funding for community or youth dance projects. The Toolkit contains information about sources of funding, practical exercises and useful examples for new or experienced fundraisers. The Toolkit costs £10 +£1.50 postage and packing. Disabled Tennis  The Dan Maskell Tennis Trust has grants of up to £1,000 available to help disabled people play tennis in three main areas; wheelchair tennis, deaf tennis, and tennis for people with learning disabilities. For more information phone: 0208 4877119

Support for rowing clubs  The Rowing Foundation has grants available of between £500 and £2,000 for clubs to start specific projects. The projects should support young people and disabled people of all ages in sports and games, particularly water sports. Individuals are not funded. For more information: http://www.ara-rowing.org/

Water sports and music  The Angust Allnat Charitable Foundation has grants of between £250 and £1,000 available to support organisations which provide music or water based activities for young people aged 13 to 25. Football foundation  The Football Foundation’s mission is to “improve facilities, create opportunities and build communities”. You can  find out more about seeking funding from the Football Foundation at: http://www.footballfoundation.org.uk/seeking-funding.

Football skills  The Football Foundation has funding of up to £9,000 (or up to 90% of eligible costs). This is to enable community groups to increase skills for the football workforce by promoting coaching education, volunteering programmes and by providing equipment. Football clubs, multi-sports clubs, local authorities, educational establishments and other not for profit organisations can apply. For more information: www.footballfoundation.org.uk

Areas for football  Goaldigger grants are available for schemes which provide or improve hard surface football kickabout areas for children and young people. For more information call  0207 833 5360

Energy opportunities for cricket clubs  The English Cricket Board has grants of up to £10,000 available to promote cricket clubs ‘going green’. Projects should have an environmental theme and/ or improve energy efficiency e.g. fitting solar panels, bicycle storage. The grant cannot exceed 75% of the total cost of the project and cricket clubs must be affiliated to ECB via their County Cricket Board. For more information: www.ecb.co.uk

Youth Cricket  The Lord’s Taverners has grants of up to £6,000 available to organisations directly involved with youth cricket for the installation of non-turf pitches, practice ends and nets. For more information: www.lordstaverners.org

Young cricketers  The Brian Johnson Memorial Foundation have grants of between £500 and £750 available for young talented cricketers between the ages of 11 and 19 in need of financial support. For more information: www.johnners.com or phone 020 7821 2809

Athletics  The British Athletics Charitable Trust has grants available to assist young athletes in need. The trust also seeks to assist in the provision of athletic track and field event facilities to the highest safety standards. For more information: www.bact.co.uk or phone 07801 080469.

Rugby  The Groundmatch Grant Scheme has funding available for rugby pitches, clubhouse facilities and equipment.  Grants are between £1,500 and £6,000.  Applicants must fund 50% of the total cost of the project from other sources.  For more information: www.rfu.com or phone 0208 8317 985.
