What does this committee do?

All elected Councillors (and any co-opted Members) are subject to the Code of Conduct for Councillors. The Standards Committee ensures that Councillors adhere to the Code and investigates any complaints brought against any Councillor. This includes Town and Parish Councillors as well as District Councillors.

The procedure may be varied by the Monitoring Officer or Deputy Monitoring Officer but the Councillor against whom the allegation has been made will be notified in writing of the proposed variation to the procedure and the reasons for that variation.  This procedure will apply to allegations of breach of the authority’s Code of Conduct by elected and co-opted members of the authority and by the directly elected mayor of the authority.

Membership of the Standards Committee 2010/11

The Committee comprises four members, including the Chairman of the Council. In addition, there are three independent members and three parish council representatives.
