SWITCH Logo

SWITCH is a youth project delivered by East Devon District since February 2010.

We have 4 main ways of reaching young people in our district.

  1. One off events or a series of workshops that engage young people in positive free time activities e.g. dj, beat boxing, digital music, film, art and media workshops, and Fundays or Community festivals which bring together the whole community.
  2. Regular clubs which give young people the opportunity to improve their futures and provide us with feedback on housing issues e.g. Parent and Toddler Groups, Creative Space, Homework Club, Information Service with free internet access and training opportunities.
  3. Recruit community volunteers who will help run the clubs or put on community events. These initiatives will offer relevant training and experience with certificates and skills which could help improve participant’s employment and education opportunities.
  4. Supporting other agencies who work with children and young people in the district, such as the Children’s Centre and the Youth service, to enhance the work of both groups.

So far the SWITCH project has -

  • Run a series of beatboxing/dj workshops with Alex Norgate and Alex Warren ending in a performance as part of the Exmouth Festival
  • Organised Youth events in Exmouth, Axminster, Honiton and Seaton
  • Worked with the Children’s Centre to set up a Parent and Toddler Group and a variety of activities in rural areas during the summer holidays
  • Worked with My Pockets, First Light films and the Exeter Phoenix Digital to produce several films, exhibitions and film shows
  • Set up Creative Space and Homework Clubs
  • Gathered feedback on housing issues that affect young people
