Garden Competition 2011
The Garden Competition is an annual event organised by the Housing Service at East Devon District Council for council tenants. This year's winners celebrated with a prize giving tea at the Council Offices, Sidmouth on 2nd September 2011. Prizes and certificates were presented by Councillor Jill Elson, (Cabinet Member for Sustainable Communities and Housing), John Golding (Head of Housing) and Andrew Sturgess (Manager Maintenance Department, Skinner Construction Ltd).
Once again our tenants have excelled themselves with their creative gardening and we had over 40 entries. This year's competition included two new categories namely ‘Disabled Garden’ and ‘Lawn’. The Disabled Garden category was sponsored by Kings Garden Centre, Exmouth, new sponsors to this year’s competition. Kieron Bewes was the judge and, using the Royal Horticultural Society judging method, once again a number of entrants obtained the Gold level.

The sponsors this year were Skinner Construction, Kieron Bewes Horticultural Consultant, Kings Garden Centre, Sidmouth Garden Centre, Jardine Lloyd Thompson Insurance, St Bridget Nurseries and the Tenant & Leaseholder Customer Panel. Raffle prizes were donated by Otter Nurseries, Otter Rotters, Streetscene and tenant volunteers.
