Thelma Hulbert Gallery
About The Thelma Hulbert Gallery
THE THELMA HULBERT GALLERY IS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC FROM JANUARY FOR REFURBISHMENT, REOPENING IN MAY 2010.
The Thelma Hulbert Gallery is changing! As of May 2010 you can expect a revitalised exhibition programme to reflect the fact that the gallery now occupies the whole of Elmfield House. Our next exhibition brochure will be produced in Spring 2010.
Elmfield House was once the home and studio of the late Thelma Hulbert, a contemporary of Victor Passmore and Wilhelmina Barns-Graham. Thelma's paintings are found in collections nationally and internationally, including the Tate, and will be displayed permanently on the first floor of the newly refurbished gallery.

On 2 October 2008 the Executive Board agreed the unanimous recommendation from Corporate Overview (Feasibility Study Option 2); that the finances be found to allow the authority (after taking back the ground floor of Elmfield House from the current lease holder) to expand the gallery and staffing to cover new activity throughout the whole building and ancillary areas. This will follow a business plan that, over four phases, and with grant aid, creates better financial viability and better opportunity, enhances Honiton, provides a better learning environment, better engages the local community and creates a cultural hub for future activity across East Devon.
Ishbel Ramsay, Arts Development, East Devon District Council 6 October 2008
