PRESENT MAKERS 08
8 November - 20 December 2008
Once again, Curator Angela Blackwell has brought together a stunning collection from leading South West designer/makers for the annual Thelma Hulbert pre-Christmas contemporary crafts selling exhibition.
Crafts represented include Ceramics, Jewellery, Textiles, Printmaking and Metalwork. All work is for sale and will make unique gifts. Prices range from £2.00 for greetings cards featuring tiny ceramic tiles by Caroline Barnes to £420 for a garden table featuring a working door handle by Helen Nock.
You may be tempted by hand made notebooks with recycled vintage covers by Priscilla Trenchard or brilliantly coloured soft sculptures by Jenny Ford. You may prefer quirky white porcelain cups by Angie Wickenden or more traditional silver and amethyst jewellery by Erin Cox. Maybe contemporary polypropylene bowls by Tim Lake are more to your taste.
Or just come and admire the art.
Whatever you are looking for, there is something to please everyone at the Thelma Hulbert Gallery this season.

Selling Showcases Poppy Treffry
8 November - 20 December 2008
Poppy Treffry is a designer living and working in Cornwall who makes delicate purses, beautiful bags and amusing cosies for tea and coffee pots - and eggs! All are hand stitched on an ancient singer sewing machine in Poppy's studio in Newlyn. Poppy sketches almost every day and her subjects can be everything from the rooftops of St. Ives to knives, forks and tractors! The artist searches high and low to discover the beautiful reclaimed or vintage fabrics she uses in her work and every piece she creates is individual - perfect if you are looking for something unique, as a gift or for yourself.
You can see examples of Poppy Treffry's work at the Thelma Hulbert Gallery until 20 December.
THELMA HULBERT GALLERY FEASIBILITY STUDY
On 2 October 2008 the Executive Board agreed the unanimous recommendation from Corporate Overview (Feasibility Study Option 2); that the finances be found to allow the authority (after taking back the ground floor of Elmfield House from the current lease holder) to expand the gallery and staffing to cover new activity throughout the whole building and ancillary areas. This will follow a business plan that, over four phases, and with grant aid, creates better financial viability and better opportunity, enhances Honiton, provides a better learning environment, better engages the local community and creates a cultural hub for future activity across East Devon.
Ishbel Ramsay, Arts Development, East Devon District Council 6 October 2008
