How much will it cost?

How much you pay for play, recreation or open spaces depends on whether you're:

  • contributing towards enhancements to existing facilities; or
  • providing new facilities on site.

Indicative costs are set out in the table below, but you should check with us for a more definite figure.

Size of dwelling Previous fee. New fee for Urban Areas (from 01/04/13). New fee for Rural Areas (from 01/04/13).

The parishes of Exmouth, Ottery St. Mary, Sidmouth, Honiton, Seaton and Axminster are classed as 'Urban'. All other parishes within East Devon are classed as 'Rural'.

Habitat Mitigation

The charges for habitat mitigation are made up of two components. These are the on-site mitigation measures which will be provided to mitigate the recreational impacts arising from new developments actually on the Exe Estuary and Pebblebed Heaths, and a separate element towards the provision of Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspaces (SANG’s). The charges are therefore formulated as follows:

Zone. Charge for on-site Measures. Charge for SANG's. Total Charge Per New Dwelling.
Exe Estuary only. £123 £477 £600
Pebblebed Heaths only. £149 £477 £626
Exe Estuary and Pebblebed Heaths. £272 £477 £749

Please note that the abovementioned mitigation charges only apply from the 1st August 2014. If submitting an application prior to this date then a contribution will only be required within the Exe Estuary mitigation zone (see map referred to above)  and this charge will only be £350 per dwelling. Prior to the 1st August 2014 major residential developments within 10km of the Pebblebed Heaths will be expected to show how the development will mitigate impacts on the heaths.
