6. Applying for a re-rating visit

Businesses can ask for a re-visit to re-rate the Food Hygiene Rating if they have taken action to correct the non-compliances found at the time of inspection.

The Council have recently approved a scheme whereby a business can make this request at any time, for a charge of £140. The previous scheme only allowed for one revisit to be carried out.

Businesses must show what improvements they have made, and the re-visit will be carried out within three months of the request and payment of the fee.

The inspector will give a ‘new’ food hygiene rating based on the level of compliance that is found at the time of the re-visit - this can mean that the rating could go up, down or remain the same.

You must submit your payment of £140 to complete your application to receive a re-rating visit. If you wish to apply for a re-rating visit please print out and complete the Re-rating application form, and send it to the Environmental Health Service, East Devon District Council, Blackdown House, Border Road, Heathpark Industrial Estate, Honiton, EX14 1EJ.  You can pay by cheque to East Devon District Council, or call our Administration Team to arrange payment of the £140 charge by credit or debit card on 01395 517457.
